Stopped here for an espresso and asked for a double. The drink they got me is anything but an espresso. It's good nonetheless. Didn't try the food but they had large cookies for a dollar which is nice to see in Vancouver...

The rudest manager I have ever met in Vancouver! I have come to this cafe every week, and 2 weeks ago, the manager asked me to bring cash instead of a credit card, as it charged them too much. I said I'd try. I brought cash last week (one of her staff served me), but forgot this week. She charged me more, and I wasn't sure, but simply looked at the receipt. She noticed this and told me that because I broke my "promise" of bringing cash, she charged me 50 cents extra! I calmly told her that, a. I hadn't promised anything, b. it is her legal duty to tell me before that she would charge me extra, as that's false advertising, and c. I'd have paid the 50 cents if she had told me before. She began to berate me, telling me that I should keep my promises, and that she could charge me as much as she liked. It seems that she had talked to my friend before (she frequently goes to this cafe), as this manager began to mention personal things about me (my job, etc.) as leverage. I told her that she was not behaving professionally. She then returned the money "out of the goodness of her heart". I told her that it would be illegal had she not, and told her that I no longer wanted her tea. She then told me to leave, saying that I wasn't a good person, and that I was causing a scene. I reminded her that I had not so much as raised my voice, but that she was causing a scene and that she should probably revisit her legal duties as a manager of a cafe in this city.

I moved to Vancouver three weeks ago from Europe and I find myself in this cafe pretty much every single day. I love the atmosphere, the food, the music and most of all the staff. It is the first place I have found that makes me feel like Vancouver could be home and that is due to how well the staff look after me and the friendly response I get every day now that know me. I would have found my transition to life in Vancouver a lot harder if it had not been for this wonderful cafe and all its staff. Cannot recommend it highly enough

All this was for a small credit card charge (less that 50 cents). I was almost tempted not to write this review as it seems this woman's business is apparently not doing so well.

I returned to my friend and began to explain the situation to her, to which this manager shouted over the counter to my friend, talking over me and calling me names. I reminder her that I had not called her one name, and she had called me "rude", "unkind", and "not a good person". She only said I called her "unprofessional". I simply reminded her she was behaving unprofessionally (English is not her first language, so I believe she didn't understand this). She said she'd call the police, and I told her I agreed because they can see she's not abiding by the law.My friend and I were so disturbed, we decided to leave, and she said she no longer wanted us there.

    2. In response to your comment, I only told her that she must tell customers that she will charge them before she charges the extra fee. She repeated over and over again that I broke my promise (I had made no such thing). She name called me 3 times, and admitted that I only said she was behaving unprofessionally. You call the police when someone is doing something illegal. I chose to walk away, and she shouted at me over the counter and to my friend, and she was committing an illegal act. I calmly asked that she call the police, and she couldn't, which indicates that she had no leg to stand on. This is not a nice person, and you're obviously the manager writing, so please don't advocate for yourself.

I love Azar's soup! Started out obsessively eating the lentil soup every day a few years ago. It's awesome! Now I often have half and half of whatever is going, lentil/mushroom; lentil/chicken; lentil/squash - it's all v-e-r-y tasty and healthy. If I eat her soup for a few days I feel great! Protein! All the people that have worked there are friendly and fun: Mad Betty, Gabby in the past; Kaid and Martina now...with Satoshi the new kid on the block... Recently I've had a chicken wrap and they fill the spot as well...

The owners are so kind and accomadating. Yes, the service isn't as fast as say Tim Hortons, but it is well worth it for the delicious food and drinks in a quaint little shop. It has a romantic/comfortable vibe that makes it all the sweeter.
