  I had a nightmare experience with Discount. My friend works for the head office of another rental car agency, so I now understand how serious this scam was. Myself and my partner were to move from Calgary to BC. We didnt have a credit card so they allowed us to do the rental with a $1000 deposit + the rental cost ontop AND they required us to buy their FULL coverage. So we did. Mind you this did cost several thousand dollars. We paid for the rental, drop off fee for one way, full insurance, gas and deposit. We hit bad weather in Kelowna. It being the middle of winter and late at night, we decided to call up an old friend and stay the night as we were ahead of schedule. As we're going up the hill to his place, the truck slides backwards and sideways! We knew something was not right as it was not a steep hill and no one else was stuck. The truck slowly went into the side of the road, right into a snowbank. My partner tried his best to somehow get this truck out of this snowbank but of course, we had no luck. So we had to leave the truck and continue to our friend's place about a 2 minute drive around the corner. The next morning we called Discount to see if they could please set up some assistance. Now, where my friend works (large rental branch) I know that this type of assistance is going to come out of the customers pocket initially and depending on the situation you can seek reimbursement. I know that no matter what the situation (lost keys, flat tire, lockout etc) they do their best to accommodate their customer even if that means delivering a car out to another province because they are broke down. They will at the least call roadside for you to get you help. Well I guess this isn't the case with Discount. The woman we spoke to told us that this was not her concern and that this is our responsibility alone. She HUNG UP on me. My partner called her back asking to please just get us some assistance and she kept saying "No sir. No sir. No sir." And HUNG UP again. Our friends girlfriend heard all of this and decided to take it upon herself to try to talk to Discount. She got the same lady when she called and as soon as the lady realized that it was our friend calling for us, SHE HUNG UP AGAIN. So... after several early hours of trying to get some service and trying to get this truck out ourselfs (no luck) I decided I'm going to call a tow and pay. The towing company came within minutes and they were so very nice. The man was shocked that this truck couldn't make it up this little hill. He listened to our story and proceeds to just take a peek at the tires. Well.. what do you know. Discount sent us off in the middle of winter with no snow tires. Not even mud and snow tires!!! This is 100% illegal, not to mention extremely dangerous. We were literally sliding down this hill backwards and sideways because we were out in illegal transportation basically. The tow truck driver was basically flabbergasted and advised us that he can't see Discount not reimbursing us for their big mistake. After this mess, we continue on our way. We get to our destination and unpack the truck. We come out the next morning and bam. The side mirror was hit overnight. Thank god they made us get the full coverage which includes damage. So no worries. When we arrive to Discount, we showed the man at the counter the mirror and specifically asked "this was covered because we purchased the full insurance, right?" He would not look at us and just said "Yep. Yep." We called a day later to ask where our $1000 deposit was and were told that they are keeping it. We got the FULL insurance!! The man told us that the ONLY thing their insurance doesn't cover is mirrors and undercarriage. Apparently a side mirror cost $1000? Do not rent from these people. No matter what coverage you get, they will keep your deposit for some "exception". They will put you in a faulty vehicle and blame you. Oh and that tow we had to get thanks to their BIG tire mistake? No refund, of course! Learn from my experience. These people will steal your money.

  A company and a location to avoid. Watch your credit card for charges after many months of visiting this place. Being out of courtesy cars, the car dealership called this “partner” company to provide me with a replacement for the duration of the repairs to my truck, with the dealership paying for the rental (as repairs were done under warranty). Eleven (11) months later Discount charged my credit card (that I had to provide as driver when picking up the car) without my authorization. Trying to deal with them is in vain. I wrote customer service several times, they would call back to acknowledge I wrote them and clearly without any intention of looking into the issue and that’s it. I felt uneasy when I was there, but I was trusting the dealership, big mistake! Trust your senses: if it smells bad that’s because it is bad!

  Such a terrible company. They charged $307 more than the price we booked through the website. We were completely ripped off.

  Called to rent a van for a day which says its valid from SUNDAY to Thursday for 18.95. Needing the Van for sunday to move stuff. All locations are closed on sundays??? So WHY offer that deal if you're all CLOSED!? It should say offer valid from MONDAY to THURSDAY! Idiots.

  Rude staff. Overbooked cars so many folks were left stranded. Wont rent a car to Americans unless you pay $25 a day for their insurance. Was finally given a dirty Hyundai with key scratches all the way down one side. Called Discount rent a car customer service which is a joke and after 4 calls with no call back. Beware!
