    4) After a couple visits (and after we had learned that the procedure Dr. Anderson had jumped to was very risky, and not recommended unless a lot of other factors are confirmed), where Dr. Anderson tended to just pile Coal on medications instead of attempting to figure out what was going wrong, we switched to Cat's Only Animal Hospital, and later to the Fraser Heights Animal Hospital. In short: around 2 years later after we stopped visiting Anderson's, Coal died a painful and pitiful death due to FeLV. His last two months were filled with so many hospital visits, and it is a long story on its own. What we know is this: FeLV cats DO have a chance to survive if their infection is managed, there ARE experimental medications (similar to HIV medications for humans) which can help decrease the viral load and increase the ability of the cat to maintain a status quo with the infection....BUT all of these rely on being able to catch FeLV early.

    2) Dr. Anderson did not test Coal for Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV), which is one of the most important tests that should be done in the first vet visit. Instead, he was inoculated for FeLV, FPV, etc, given a minimal check up, given some skin based anti-parasite medicine, and sent home.

His staff has been very helpful and sympathetic, gave me a lot of support along the way. They even went an extra mile to drop me and my dog off when I had difficulty arranging a ride one day. They are really professional people who are also caring for their clients and patients.

And Dr. Anderson did not do the FeLV test he was supposed to do. Malpractice at best, and willful negligence at worst. In either case, a sweet life was lost.

    3) Fast forward a couple of months, and Coal is sometimes having wet, hacky coughs. We take him to Dr. Anderson's, where he is pretty convinced its allergies, etc. We are given steroids (terrible for a cat with FeLV, because it lowers their immune system further), and when the coughing still persists, Dr. Anderson suggests that Coal's be put under general anaesthesia so that his chest can be flushed out---a very risky procedure! We didn't know at the time, and allowed it.

    1) after getting Coal (a beautiful black cat with cute and fat tomboy cheeks) from the SPCA, we went to Anderson's (because we live in Marpole), for the free vet visit the SPCA helps pay for. The SPCA recommends that vets test for various infections, and give common vaccines.

An emotional part of me would like to write: "Dr. Anderson killed my cat.", but I cannot do so in good faith, since I do not know for sure. What I do know for sure is the following:

Dr. Anderson's examination is very thorough, he cares for the overall health of my pet and not only what I book the appointment for. He found out my pet's dental and allergy problems which my previous vets never mentioned to me. I really care about dental health of myself so my pet's dental health is important to me too. After the treatment, all the symptoms related to allergy (that I used to always wonder what the cause was before but other vets couldn't cure) were gone.

Very disappointed in this vet. Customer relations are poor at best. Our dog got a flea (thankfully singular) from a visit and they claimed it’s impossible because no dog that walks in there has fleas. Except our dog was there, so obviously that’s not true. On a separate occasion, tried to double charge us for anesthesia for two dental procedures, and fixed it only after we caught it. Just generally don’t like scaremongering vets and they’re guilty of that too.

I was referred by a friend because my dog was losing weight. Went to few vets but no doctors could pin point the cause. Dr. Anderson was very knowledgeable and recommended some tests for my dog. We were able to get results very quickly and found out my dog had cancer. He explained in detail about the problem and treatment options and we agreed on surgery. Now my dog is in process of chemo therapy sessions done by Dr. Anderson and doing really well! Already gaining weight back!

Dr. Anderson is NOT like other vets, telling me to try THIS first, then if it's not working, then try THAT for a while. After trying few things, time is wasted but things are not improving and my pet gets worse! A lot of people only see money money money, they feel that they don't pay much each time and the vets are helping them, but it actually does not do any good for the owner and their precious pet. Dr. Anderson offers different reasonable options for what he is able to do and I can select what I want or to have tests done in stages. Nobody "force" me to do anything.

If you care for your cat, contact the Richmond Animal Protection Society, and ask for a recommendation for good vets. Do not go to Anderson's. Similarly, for other pets, contact those in the know for recommendations. Never go to the vet simply because their office is close to where you live.

Walked in with a health happy 4 year old dog with a minor problem. Paid the consultation fee, then given a over $1000 estimate by the nurse. Next, pressured to pay immediately, asked why I didn’t bring money, and asked me to “call for money”. I left, and actually felt that being cheated $40 consultation fee was lucky. My solution: went to a very good Vet who helped my dog get better and paid $200. Its not the money, it’s the principle that we had a minor problem only and shouldn’t be spending money like that. I’m also relieved that my dog doesn’t need to go through being poked with blood tests and unnecessary anaesthesia. Imagine the pressure if I went in with a sick pet. Personal opinion, I would never recommend this place unless. There are Many many more better options available with that price range, look around and most important read the reviews.
